How to access more detailed ABR data than your Economic Profile site shows
Where to get business-level detail when your site's aggregated ABR data isn't enough
Your Economic Profile site includes business data drawn from the Australian Business Register (ABR), published in aggregate. If you need detail on individual businesses, this guide points you to the source. It's written for government organisations that already use Economic Profile and need more than the site publishes.
Before you begin
This guide is for government organisations. Direct access to ABR data is available to government agencies with the authority to access it, and eligibility varies by agency type.
Note: your Economic Profile site publishes ABR business data in aggregate, grouped by industry and area, rather than as individual business records. As a government organisation, you can go straight to the ABR for business-level detail.
Steps
- Go to ABR Explorer Use the ABR Explorer platform to search, filter, map and download ABR data direct from the register: https://www.abr.gov.au/government-agencies/accessing-abr-data/abr-data-products-and-services/abr-explorer
- First time? Follow the prompts to gain access If you haven't used the ABR Explorer before, or you're not sure if you have access, follow the prompts on the ABR Explorer site.
What to expect
You'll be able to get ABR business data directly from the source, in more detail than the aggregated figures published on your Economic Profile site.
