I can't change or lock map classification ranges in Placemaker
Understand why changing or locking map classification ranges is not yet available in Placemaker, and how the default colour scale works.
Symptoms
You want to change the colour scale or classification ranges on the Placemaker map but cannot find the option, or the option is not available.
You want to lock the map colour scale to a fixed range for consistent comparison across time periods, but cannot find this option.
Cause
Placemaker does not yet support customising or locking map classification ranges. Both features are planned for a future release.
Resolution
Until these features are available, the map displays data using default classification ranges calculated automatically for your subscription area, per year.
How the default colour scale works
The colour scale is based on the minimum and maximum values within your subscription geography. Break points are calculated using natural jenks, a standard mapping method that groups similar values together to highlight meaningful patterns.
Yellow represents zero. Blue tones show sequential growth and reds show sequential decline.
Comparing data across time periods
The colour scale is calculated once per year based on that year's data. This means the scale may differ between years, which can affect visual comparisons across time periods.
If the default ranges are making it difficult to interpret or compare your data, contact your .id account manager to discuss your needs.
If This Doesn't Resolve the Issue
Contact .id support and describe the specific classification range behaviour you need. Feedback from EAP customers helps prioritise upcoming features.
