Learn how to navigate to a specific location in Placemaker using map exploration or the address search when creating a catchment.
There are two ways to navigate to a specific location in Placemaker: exploring the map freely, or using the address search when creating a catchment.
Steps
Option A: Explore the map
- From the home screen: Click Explore map.
- The map opens showing Australia at a broad zoom level.
- Use the + and − zoom controls (top left of the map), or scroll to zoom in and out.
- Click and drag to pan the map to your area of interest.
- Click the current location button (crosshairs icon) to centre the map on your browser location.
Option B: Search by address
The address search in Placemaker is accessed through the catchment creation flow.
- From the home screen, click + Create catchment.
- In the Create a catchment panel, select the Address tab.
- Type a suburb name, town, or street address (e.g. 'Geelong VIC' or '123 Smith Street') into the address field.
- Select a result from the autocomplete dropdown.
- Select a catchment range (drive time or radius) and click Preview. The map will navigate to your selected location.
- If you only wanted to navigate to the area without saving a catchment, close the panel or click Clear.
What to Expect
The map will navigate to your selected location. You can then apply boundary views and data themes via the Layers panel, or proceed to create a catchment around the area.
Troubleshooting
- Address not appearing in results: Try a nearby suburb name or postcode. The search covers all of Australia.
- Map not moving after selecting a result: Refresh the page and try again.
